Implement Factory / OFMRDC at Bhubaneswar,Odisha.

 This factory was established in 1960-61  in the capital of the state Odisha at Bhubaneswar.It was producing Mould board Plows,Hoes,Weeders etc which were either manual or animals drawn implements.The capacity of the factory was to produce implements worth 30 lakh annually.The factory was re-named as Odisha Farm Machinery Research & Development Center with  effect from 1st January,2010.In the year 1995,motorized (1HP) power implements i.e.Thresher ,Groundnut Decorticator were introduced in the state which became very popular among farmers. During the year 2000, oil engine operated thresher, tractor PTO operated & power tiller engine operated axial flow thresher, self propelled transplanter, reaper, rotavator, etc. were introduced.

In the year 1995,motorized (1HP) power implements i.e.Thresher ,Groundnut Decorticator were introduced in the state which became very popular among farmers. During the year 2000, oil engine operated thresher, tractor PTO operated & power tiller engine operated axial flow thresher, self propelled transplanter, reaper, rotavator, etc. were introduced. 

In 2008 combine harvester was promoted in the state along with varieties of high value implements & machinery. It is amazing that the poor farmers of Odisha now are in a position to use rotavator, transplanter, reaper, combine in their field through custom hiring.Farm mechanization is advancing in the state beyond one’s expectation & imagination.

At present there are one SE post,one Executive Engineer post,4 Assistant Agricultural Engineer posts,Total 6 posts in OFMRDC for research, development & production of proto type implements.

 The meaning of water management is optimization of watering a crop as per it's requirement.In coming years we are going to face water stress in many parts of the world where as  to feed the growing population, cultivable land needs to be  increased along with water requirement for Agriculture. Therefore we are to control water while irrigating a crop. We should not allow water for deep percolation and drainage rather supply water up to root zone depth of a crop. We are to harvest each drop of rain water & prohibit it to drain to river & ocean.
