Farm Mechanization in Odisha.
The first batch of Agricultural Engineers passed from the College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology (CAET) under Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) in the year 1971.At that time there was an Implement Factory in the state capital at Bhubaneswar.The factory was producing mainly Iron MB Plow & other manual implements like Hoes,weeders etc.The capacity of the factory was to produce maximum implements worth 30 lakh annually & these manual ,Bullock drawn implements were sold around the state through the Offices of the Assistant Agricultural Engineers established in all the 13 old districts of the state.
During the year 1990,the Implement Factory started producing Power Operated Implements using 1 HP electric motor.Power operated hold on type paddy threshers & Groundnut Decorticators were produced in the factory & sold in the state with high demand.Gradually power Winnower, Dal Mills were produced in the factory.
During 1995, Self Propelled Rice Transplanter, Reaper were introduced in the state.Gradually, the poor state of Odisha turned to a Farm Machinery hub &š became eligible to promote tractor operated Axial flow thresher even Combine Harvester worth 24 lakh.Through custom hiring people earn money from these machines.Farmers & unemployed village youths were encouraged to establish Agro Service Center in villages & give machines on rent to poor farmers.This scheme became so popular that the poor state Odisha was flooded with Tractors, Power Tillers,Rotavators,Self Propelled Transplanters,Reapers,Combines,Pumps,Sprayers etc.
